We are thrilled to shout out about Alisha Braatz winning first place in MG & YA for the Kay Snow Writing Contest of the Willamette Writers for her story, WILLA WILD! The Willamette Writers is the largest membership writers’ organization in the Pacific Northwest.
A little about Willa…
Willa Wild has the legacy of great-great-grandfather Frank Wild to protect. She also has a little problem with — alien penguins? Oh, and climate change. Because everything that happens in Antarctica is bigger, wetter, crazier, and a heck-of-a-lot colder than anywhere else on earth.
A little about Alisha…
Alisha Braatz is a children’s author from Oregon who writes and illustrates middle-grade fiction and picture books. After graduating from Pepperdine University with a double-major in Advertising and Creative Writing, Alisha moved to Italy, where as an Au Pair she learned to speak just enough Italian to communicate with three year olds. After her sojourn in Europe, Alisha spent many years as a Realtor/Writer; by day she helped folks buy homes, and in the evenings she penned a syndicated humor column with Inman Real Estate News. Her debut children’s book The Awesome Book About God For Kids, illustrated Sandy Silverthorne, was published by Harvest House in 2013. More about Alisha here!
When Alisha submitted WILLA WILD, we at Hen&ink couldn’t wait to read the full manuscript. With a strong character and pitch-perfect dialogue, WILLA WILD is a timely and rollicking good time of a novel that addresses the serious subject of climate change. (With series potential…)
