Shut the door!
OPEN COOP DAY
Announcing Open Coop First Fridays
FROM NOON UNTIL MIDNIGHT, Pacific Standard Time (PST)
Contemporary Commercial-Literary Middle-Grade Fiction
The First Friday of each month* is now an OPEN COOP DAY for SPECIFIC types of submissions. This week’s FIRST FRIDAY is February 5th and we are looking for
contemporary commercial-literary MIDDLE-GRADE FICTION.
Read on, if that’s what you have!
What we would love to see cross our desks:
Ambitious story- and character-driven contemporary middle-grade fiction
Original Voices and Characters
First Love and Romance
Surprising Action and Adventure
Multi-layered stories that keep the pages turning and the flashlights on
Make Us Laugh
Make Us Cry
But whatever you do, Make Us Feel.
Emphasis on Character and Voice. Smart Humor. Rich Language and Gorgeous-yet-invisible Crafting. Fabulous and Natural Dialogue. A Beginning, Middle, and an End.
FYI, it’s often easier to say what we would rather not see:
Hyper-serious or issue books
Bathroom or scatological humor
Historical or “genre” MG
Stories in verse
Thank you! We can’t wait to see what’s hatching!
HOW TO SUBMIT:
Please send the first 5 pages, your log line or one-line pitch, and a one-page synopsis of your awesome completed middle-grade novel to submissions A T henandink.com between noon and midnight PST on Friday, 5 February 2016.
No rotten eggs, please: Anything of another genre or anything received outside of the Open Coop Day and timeframe, will be deleted. Sorry, it’s about survival.
If we are intrigued, we’ll ask for the whole omelet, as-it-were.
(And now we will stop with the bad egg jokes.)
