About Chantal Bourgonje
Chantal is a Dutch illustrator working from the Wiltshire countryside in the UK. The latest books she illustrated, “Worzel goes for a walk” and the “Lucky, lucky leaf”, were published in September 2018 (Hubble & Hattie Kids). In March 2019 “Fierce Grey Mouse” written and illustrated by Chantal, will be published.
After a long time in offices, Chantal escaped to do a degree in illustration and narrative and graduated in 2011 with a 1:1 Honours degree. Her graduation project was highly commended in the MacMillan Prize and was later published by Tizio Publishing BV. Since graduating she has written and illustrated a range of children’s picture books. Her first picture book app, “Fierce Grey Mouse” was awarded a Kirkus Star for books of remarkable merit and “The Mud Monster” was in the Kirkus top 15 best book apps of 2013. That same year her picture book “Sebastian” was shortlisted for the Association of Illustrators Awards in the UK. Books from the “Pojo” series, illustrated by Chantal and published by Little Creative Days, were shortlisted for the Education Resources Awards in 2014 and were winners of the 2015 Creative Play Awards. Chantal is currently working on illustration commissions and on her own new picture books.
